Hy Vong was started by Kathy Manning and Tung Nguyen, two women with a passion for food and a desire to share their culinary gifts with the community. The two once dreamed of creating a place where people could enjoy exquisite food in an intimate environment.
Tung Nguyen was the oldest of 7 children in a family of farmers living outside of Da Nang when in 1975, at the age of 28 and pregnant, she fled her war torn country on a fishing boat crammed with 50 people. Her journey eventually led her to the home of Kathy Manning, whose church group was resettling refugees. Kathy brought Tung into her home where daughter Phuonglien was born soon after. The three have been a family ever since.
Today, Kathy and Tung have combined their talents to provide you with a dining experience where new customers mingle easily with regulars and conversations extend from one table to another taking on the characteristics of a lively dinner party. Come try our mouthwatering jumbo shrimp, our just-caught fish in mango sauce, our slow-roasted duck in currant sauce, or our pork rolling cakes made with our own rice paper. And to complement your dining experience, try one of our many imported beers and wines.
